In the Land of Meadows is a forthcoming Viking film based on the Icelandic Vinland Sagas which tells the Norse discovery and brief colonization of North America. The film focuses on the events leading up to the Vikings’ sailing west to Newfoundland, with the main characters being Leifur Eiríkson; who’s been called “discoverer of North America'', as well as his father Erik the Red, his half-sister Freydís, and his brother Thorvald. The second half of the movie, which has yet to to be filmed, examines the conflicts between Viking settlers and the First Nation Peoples. What will be emphasized most in the film’s storyline is how the indigenous people eventually overthrow their Viking oppressors. Shot entirely in Iceland over the last 7 years, this folkloric epic is directed by filmmakers Lee Lorenzo Lynch and Thorbjorg Jonsdottir, whose previous films embrace such genres as poetic mythologies and documentary essay films. The two are now launching a crowdfunding campaign to raise enough money to finish their revisionist Viking film.
